Job Summary
As a Sr. Process Improvement Engineer within the Operational Excellence Department, you will serve as an internal management consultant working collaboratively to achieve substantial improvement in operations. You will manage projects throughout the project lifecycle, collaborate with operational leaders to agree on and implement recommendations, support change, and achieve excellent, lasting results for our patients.
Responsibilities
Serve as a change agent and transformation leader, providing leaders, teams, and departments with state‑of‑the‑art process improvement and industrial engineering methodologies to transform operational processes.
Support performance improvement activities that align with the strategic direction of the WMC Health Network, based on analysis of current operations and future needs.
Scope improvement initiatives, secure consensus and leadership support, establish metrics and milestones; create and update project plans, action items, and meeting minutes.
Oversee data collection, analysis, and assessment through observations and system reporting; prepare documents, including workflow and process flow diagrams.
Apply queuing theory and simulation modeling to service delivery decision‑making.
Collaborate with leaders across the organization to ensure high‑quality patient services, cost‑effective resource allocation, and efficient, responsive flow of patients, information, and materials, facilitating lean and highly reliable processes.
Conduct process and data analysis to uncover improvement opportunities; develop information‑flow solutions to streamline handoff.
Translate operational business requirements into future‑state process designs.
Facilitate teams to identify, design, and implement solutions using process engineering and improvement‑science principles that result in high‑quality and efficient processes.
Query and analyze data, develop visualizations, and distribute performance analytics tools to promote data‑driven decision‑making.
Build and implement technical solutions that automate and optimize business processes, communications, and reporting using advanced programming (SQL, Python) and workflow automation tools (Microsoft Power Platform).
Mentor and support development of new team members; coach and educate all levels of the organization on process improvement techniques.
Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Healthcare Management, or a related healthcare field, with significant improvement science and transformation training and experience.
Experience with modern EMR software, optimization, reporting, and workflow design.
Proficiency in Python or another programming language.
Strong networking, influencing, engaging partner skills; ability to build strong teams with a positive internal customer focus.
Master’s degree, required.
Lean/Six Sigma Certification or equivalent experience, preferred.
Deep understanding of the healthcare system; ability to apply system‑design thinking for organizational improvement.
Advanced proficiency in statistics and statistical software, with the ability to visualize data for improvement/performance monitoring.
Advanced skills with data visualization software such as Tableau or Power BI.
Advanced skills with SQL, databases, and ETL processes/tools (SSIS) required.
Advanced skills in process automation using solutions such as Robotic Process Automation or Microsoft Power Platform.
Record of accomplishment in designing and implementing innovative solutions with quantitative value.
Agile skills drawing from management, business administration, organization development, IT, and computer science.
Strong process mapping and visualization using Microsoft Visio.
Excellent written and verbal communication; strong drive for perfection and professionalism.
Proven ability to work independently on projects and as part of a larger team.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
