Company Description NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education, support services, and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
Primary Responsibilities/Function The Program Manager of Independence and Housing works alongside the Director to plan, organize, and direct the day‑to‑day operations of the Department, ensuring contract compliance, goal attainment, and benchmark achievement. The Department focuses on the operation of all street outreach teams and case management programs for those who are unhoused, homelessness prevention and/or diversion strategies, and all NAMI San Diego/Imperial Valley residential programs—including independent or communal living homes, transitional housing, non‑congregate bridge programs, and shelter projects. The Program Manager supports strategic planning, personnel management, contract and budget compliance, and provides leadership with the program design‑funding‑implementation‑evaluation cycle.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recruit, supervise, train, and recognize department staff
Directly supervise the NAMI Encampment Resolution Riverbed program and teams
Work in the field with the Encampment Resolution team to ensure project goals and deliverables are attained and provide guidance to case management staff
Ensure department data is tracked in the appropriate data entry systems in a timely and accurate manner and pull reports as needed to maintain data quality
Ensure all weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting is completed
Lead monthly case conferencing meetings for each Encampment Resolution program's case load
Collaborate with Program Managers and the Director to ensure department standards are met
Support the department director in generating and implementing internal processes, document workflows, and standardizing homeless outreach and residential programs
Assist in budget adherence and spending
Participate in community relations efforts of NAMI San Diego/Imperial Counties
Attend required training, provide or secure training for employees, and ensure timely completion of training
Perform other duties as assigned
Accountability Reports to Director of Independence and Housing
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Prolonged periods of standing and walking
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Minimum Requirements
Reliable and consistent attendance and punctuality required
Must have a satisfactory driving record and be willing to drive a personal or company vehicle
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred (Social Work, Psychology, Community, Education, Advocacy/Activism) or equivalent work experience
2‑4 years of experience in a leadership role, preferably in a non‑profit setting
Significant experience working with homeless populations, individuals with mental health disorders and/or substance use
Familiarity with the mental health, substance use disorder or homelessness fields and/or lived expertise preferred
Must be committed, dependable, trustworthy, and passionate about housing and mental health recovery
Must work well in an often unpredictable environment and adapt to a fast‑changing setting
Must be well organized, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and able to conduct business in a respectful and professional manner
Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Intermediate‑to-advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and web navigation
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Due to our work with vulnerable populations and county contractor requirements, applicants will be required to undergo a background check following a contingent offer of employment and must receive satisfactory results prior to a final offer of employment.
