Structural Integrity Associates (SIA) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Consultant to support mechanical analysis and assessment of nuclear components, reactor internals, pressure boundary systems, and mechanical hardware.
This role focuses on structural analysis, FEA-based evaluations, degradation assessments, and mechanical support for aging management programs. It blends mechanical design, analysis, FEA, and problem-solving.
Candidates should have strong mechanical analytical skills, experience evaluating loads and stresses on components, and an interest in complex mechanical systems within operating nuclear plants.
Primary Responsibilities
Mechanical and Structural Analysis
Perform mechanical and structural evaluations for reactor internals, vessel components, and pressure boundary hardware
Participate in evaluations of mechanical degradation including fatigue, cracking, wear, or thermal‑mechanical aging
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection data to support mechanical integrity decisions
Component and System Evaluation
Support design or redesign of mechanical components, incorporating operational load conditions and aging effects
Participate in evaluations for equipment modifications, upgrades, or corrective actions
Support emergent outage work including root‑cause evaluations, foreign material assessments, or mechanical damage investigations
Project Execution and Reporting
Prepare technical reports, drawings packages, analyses, and calculation files with nuclear‑grade quality
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (materials, chemistry, FEA, piping) to develop integrated solutions
Client Engagement & Business Development
Contribute to proposals, scopes, estimates; identify growth opportunities
Collaboration & R&D
Collaborate across disciplines; contribute to internal R&D roadmap and industry activities (e.g., EPRI participation, method improvements)
Required Skills/Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
4–10 years of mechanical engineering experience (preferably power/nuclear or similar heavy industry)
Experience with FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar)
Experience evaluating structural loads, mechanical components, and degradation
Strong technical writing and communication skills
Ability to support multiple concurrent engineering tasks
Desired Skills/Qualifications
Exposure to nuclear mechanical assessments, ASME Code rules, or reactor internals evaluations
Background in fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics input prep, or thermal‑mechanical load assessment
Experience with CAD/3D modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor) and data analytics
Familiarity with aging management, inspection programs, or system modifications.
Pay Range The expected salary range for this role is $101,040 - $184,560 in San Jose, CA; $86,160 - $156,120 in Denver, CO; and $79,900 - $145,320 in Charlotte, NC. Exact pay will be commensurate with experience.
