Position Summary We are currently hiring a Full‑Time Armed Special Police Officer to work at the Department of the Interior satellite office located in Washington, DC. Various full‑time shifts are available for candidates who possess a minimum of two years of security experience and are looking to join a team that allows for career growth.

Pay Transparency Pay Rate is $34.12 per hour.

Responsibilities

Perform all duties as specified in accordance with the Contract and the Post Orders.

Remain properly uniformed and present a neat, clean, and professional appearance as referenced in the SOW.

Be thoroughly knowledgeable about duties and demonstrate the ability to act effectively during emergencies or other unusual situations.

Possess all required valid certification cards while on duty.

Possess all necessary permits, credentials, etc., as required by the Contract or by local or state law.

Capable of frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require the individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather for up to four hours without shelter.

Capable of frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center.

Able to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations such as confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons.

Remain on post up to four consecutive hours without eating or drinking (except for water).

Maintain a high degree of alertness for up to 12 hours, with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations.

Use post security equipment, including magnetometers, X‑rays, screening wands, CCTV, CPU's, handcuffs, baton, chemical spray, and when required, a firearm while on duty.

Read and understand post assignments, legibly write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders.

Subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency first aid/CPR while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel).

Occasionally run, sprint, lift heavy weights, move heavy objects, and climb stairs, such as in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, and giving pursuit.

Qualifications

Citizen of the United States of America.

At least 21 years of age.

Meet all medical requirements, including drug screening.

Speak, read, write, and comprehend English fluently. Must compose coherent written reports in English. Bilateral officers are an asset, but full fluency is required.

Possess at least a high school diploma or GED.

Candidates must also meet one of the following:

Three years of security experience within the past five years;

An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours of college coursework;

Three years of military or National Guard experience;

Successful completion of Police Officer's Standard Training;

Any combination of the above (e.g., two years of security experience plus one year of college coursework).

Maintain all required credentials and certificates in accordance with the contract and local laws.

Complete Special Police Officer (SPO) training and certification.

Physical Demands

Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day.

Outdoor posts may require withstanding extreme weather conditions for up to four hours without shelter.

Frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center; must remain calm in stressful situations.

Remain on post up to four consecutive hours without eating or relieving bladder/bowels.

Remain alert for up to 12 hours, reacting quickly to unexpected and dangerous situations.

Use post security equipment such as metal detectors, X‑rays, CCTV; use handcuffs, baton, and firearm while on duty.

Read post assignments, write reports, and respond to routine and emergency dispatches.

Subdue violent or potentially violent individuals, or intervene in a crisis.

Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, and climbing stairs.
