Job Summary #CA-DK The MRI Technologist Lead provides technical knowledge and/or coordinates the delivery of MRI Services. Under the direction of a qualified physician, this position operates a variety of equipment, including high field strength magnets and support systems with MRI safety as a priority. The Lead is responsible for patient coordination, acquisition, processing, and archiving of all patient data. The role includes training new staff and existing staff on new technologies, maintaining and operating equipment per manufacturer’s specifications, and reporting all issues appropriately. The Lead may oversee MRI services and staffing coverage in the supervisor’s absence. The position complies with department protocols, UCDHS Policies and Procedures, Department of Radiology Policies and Procedures and other applicable work rules and regulations. The technologist works autonomously under general supervision, acting with initiative and responsibility to achieve maximum radiographic quality, performing all duties calmly in stressful situations and interacting with radiologists, clinicians, and peers cooperatively. The role may be performed in the Main Hospital, Ambulatory Care Center, and/or satellite facilities throughout UCD’s Primary Clinic Network as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR

No minimum education required

Advanced experience with PACS (Stentor) VISAGE and Radiology Information System required

Knowledge and ability to operate MRI equipment to provide quality images; adaptability to new programs and equipment upgrades

Advanced knowledge of MRI parameters and proven ability to build and adapt MRI protocols

Demonstrated competency in archiving, retrieving, and error handling with the VISAGE system

Complete working knowledge and skill to apply patient care practices, principles, and techniques related to specialist area

Strong written and oral communication skills to provide clear explanations and instructions to others of varying understanding, including non‑English speakers

Interpersonal skills to create a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic’s/department’s customers; compassionate demeanor and proactive negotiation skills

Ability to maintain composure, efficiency, and customer‑service orientation during peak workload, frequent interruptions, tight deadlines, and interactions with challenging customers

Preferred Qualifications

IV Certification

Contrast administration experience preferred

Department Overview The Department of Radiology operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing imaging services for adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients.

Department Specific Job Scope The role may be performed at the Main Hospital, Ambulatory Care Center, and/or satellite facilities across UCD’s Primary Clinic Network as directed by management.

Work Environment UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
