Job Summary

Directs and coordinates functions and activities of nursing department and assigned clinical operation departments.

Consults with and advises Administration on the general operation of the hospital.

Develops nursing and clinical department’s goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures.

Organizes nursing and clinical departments according to administrative and nursing service guidelines; ensures compliance with legal, organizational, and medical staff standards.

Has authority and responsibility for establishing, directing, and implementing the Standards of Nursing Practice and the clinical operations and financial matters related to all nursing and clinical care areas and functions.

In a Network Market receives direction from and has a staff reporting relationship with the Network Market Sr CCO/CCO.

Essential Functions

Manages multiple subordinate department managers who supervise staff members in multiple departments, including Nursing, Quality Management, Social Services, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, and Case Management. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Regularly evaluates overall operations and reports results to the Administrator.

Maintains a sound plan of corporate organization, establishing policies to ensure management development and succession. Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and information flow. Ensures execution of operating policies aligned with broad organizational objectives.

Defines and communicates responsibilities, authorities, and accountability for all direct subordinates. Fosters collaboration among hospital departments. May assume administrative responsibilities of the Administrator in their absence.

Promotes staff development by creating a professional environment supporting accountability and autonomy. Acts as a role model and mentor, sharing knowledge and skills with staff, students, and colleagues.

Leads nurse recruitment and retention efforts by planning and implementing innovative initiatives. Oversees the interview and hiring process for nursing staff.

Provides leadership in HR development and management. Offers guidance and counsel to nursing leadership and staff. Maintains confidentiality and effective communication mechanisms.

Contributes to and leads initiatives outlined in the Strategic Quality Plan. Serves on the Hospital Quality Council and supports continuous quality improvement efforts. Represents nursing services on various committees.

Verifies licensure, certification, qualifications, experience, and competency of nursing staff. Evaluates staff performance timely. Develops proficiency in electronic medical records.

Monitors work schedules, patient classification, and staffing needs daily. Develops staffing plans and policies to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.

Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards. Maintains survey readiness, participates in survey preparation, and develops corrective action plans as needed.

Builds a positive community image and advocates for the hospital. Collaborates on clinical service planning and implementation. Pursues ongoing professional growth.

Collaborates on budget preparation, resource allocation, and cost control. Responds to budget variances with appropriate corrective actions.

Participates in hospital leadership activities, including strategic planning, policy development, and resource management. Acts as a senior leader and interacts with medical staff and governing bodies.

Establishes credibility through excellent patient care and clinical competence. Acts as an advocate for patients and families.

Networks with peers nationally and regionally. Engages in professional development activities such as education and certification.

Salary Pay Range $47.88 - $60.72 per hour

Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, finance, or clinical specialty.

Equivalent education, training, and experience may substitute for degree.

Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse license in the state.

Current ACLS and BLS certifications.

Experience

At least three years in healthcare administration/management.

At least three years in hospital management in an inpatient, acute care setting.

Graduate education may substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis.
