General Duties
Prescribes, delegates and coordinates care to the patient through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
Conducts and documents age‑appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examination, in a systematic manner.
Orders, performs, or interprets diagnostic tests and appropriate labs and screening procedures based on assessment results and patient characteristics.
Collaborates with supervising physician(s) for treatment appropriateness, especially with complex cases, and escalates care when necessary.
Performs approved procedures on critically ill patients and participates with physicians and clinicians to assure effective, quality‑based patient care.
>Conducts rounds with physicians on assigned areas, consults in intensive care units, and assists with transferring patients to lower levels of care when appropriate. Maintains communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and continuity of care.
Completes patient care audits with collaborating physicians to confirm documentation, treatment planning, referrals, and escalation to physician.
Stays current with developments, advancements, and trends in specialty through didactic conferences, journal clubs, and continuing education program participation.
Participates in policy and program development and collaborates in research activities when appropriate to improve patient care and organizational outcomes.
Serves as a preceptor to APP students as appropriate.
Education & Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited college or university.
Current Louisiana license as a Physician Assistant.
Licenses & Certifications
American Heart Association, Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS‑HCP).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Addendum to the Job Description (University Medical Center)
Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MS‑PAS).
Physician Assistants (PA) – Louisiana State Board Of Medical Examiners.
Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS‑HCP) from American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association.
Current and unrestricted Controlled Dangerous Substance certificate.
Current and unrestricted DEA registration – LA.
Active privileges through Medical Staff Office.
Work Shift Days (United States of America).
