Job Description Summary Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders facilitate student learning and help students better understand concepts or applications of course content. SI Leaders are assigned to courses that have been identified as “historically difficult” – courses having high D, F, and W rates. The SI attends each class session and provides two to three weekly group sessions covering the course content. The SI Leaders support students and assist them in gaining effective study skills and maximizing their potential for academic success. While attending the class, SI Leaders gather insight into the course content and the instruction methods in use and maintain ongoing contact with course professors and the SI Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned grade of “A” in the selected course
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Effective communication skills
Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds
Commitment to work scheduled hours
Ability to attend a paid, mandatory training prior to the Fall/Spring semester

Job Duties Responsibilities
Attend all class meetings of the selected course, take accurate notes, and understand all homework/reading assignments and projects.
Facilitate at least two 50‑minute group study sessions per week throughout the semester.
Hold 1–2 hours of office hours per week.
Provide additional SI sessions as necessary (e.g., prior to quizzes and exams).
Meet with the course professor periodically.
Report immediately to the Coordinator when a critical issue arises.
Attend and participate in SI Leader group meetings as scheduled.
Be familiar with campus resources available to students.
Submit SI attendance report weekly to the SI coordinator.
Enter hours electronically on a bi‑weekly basis.
Time Commitment
Attend 2‑day paid training and orientation prior to the Fall/Spring semester.
Work between 12 to 15 hours per week to attend class, facilitate SI sessions, hold office hours, and prepare for SI sessions.
Attend and participate in SI Leader group meetings as called.
