The Village of Montgomery, IL (pop. 20,262), a diverse and growing community, seeks an experienced public accounting professional to serve as the community’s next Director of Finance. Quietly nestled along both banks of the Fox River in Kane and Kendall counties, just south of Aurora and 40 miles west of Chicago, residents enjoy convenient access to dining, shopping, and year-round recreation, making Montgomery an ideal place to live and work. The Village of Montgomery is a full-service organization with more than 80 employees and a budget of $100 million. Reporting directly to the Village Administrator, the Director of Finance is a key member of the Village’s executive management team and is responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, and directing the operations of the Finance Department, including purchasing, investments, utility billing, revenue forecasting, and budgeting. The Director will be heavily involved in the funding of the Village’s transition to Lake Michigan water. In addition to the Director, the Finance Department is staffed by five (5) full-time employees. The Village is seeking an innovative and collaborative professional with proven managerial experience, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills. The successful candidate will: Possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related field. A master’s degree and/or CPA certification is desirable. Prior experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Have a minimum of ten (10) years of public or not-for-profit accounting experience, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory, leadership, and budget management experience in a comparable community or agency. Have a proven record of excellence in financial management, budgeting, capital planning, and departmental leadership. Be a strategic thinker, anticipating issues or trends. Must be open to new approaches and technologies while also understanding and considering the needs and goals of the Village as a whole. Be an integral and engaged leader of the Finance department, with a genuine desire to interact with employees at all levels of the organization. Possess well developed writing and public speaking skills and an excellent reputation of utmost integrity. The salary range for this position is $118,107 - $165,350.
