Project Manager – Controls & BAS
Hybrid | Boston, MA Area Our client is a leading provider of energy-efficient solutions that help commercial and industrial clients lower and control utility expenditures. Offering comprehensive, turn-key services—including analysis, design, engineering, and implementation of energy conservation measures—they serve facilities throughout New England. We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join the Building Automation & Controls division. This individual will play a critical role in managing automation and controls projects from start to finish, working closely with engineers, electricians, mechanical contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure project delivery meets quality, budget, and timeline expectations. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Manager will oversee the implementation of building automation system (BAS) projects. This includes planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution support in collaboration with the controls engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building systems, an understanding of controls infrastructure, and experience managing technical projects in commercial or industrial environments. RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned controls projects—from kickoff through closeout Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineers, field technicians, electricians, and mechanical contractors Oversee all phases of project execution, including planning, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and commissioning support Track project timelines, deliverables, and budgets to ensure alignment with project goals Support the development of project scopes, schedules, estimates, and risk assessments Manage customer communication, ensuring expectations are met and issues are resolved promptly Facilitate onsite coordination and progress tracking with field personnel Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, safety protocols, and internal quality standards Support documentation, customer training, and project closeout efforts Assist in standardizing project processes and tools across the controls group SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE
JCI FX 80, Honeywell, Distech, or other Tridium Niagara based control systems JCI CCT (Controller Configuration Tool) Knowledge of IP-based networks and building automation communication protocols and systems strongly preferred (such protocols and systems include Niagara Tridium, BACnet, N2, LonWorks, Modbus) DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Proven experience managing commercial or industrial building automation or controls projects Familiarity with building automation systems (e.g., Tridium Niagara, JCI FX80, Distech, Honeywell) Understanding of protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and N2 Working knowledge of IP-based networks and control system integration Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and sequences of operation Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously Excellent communication and team leadership skills Experience collaborating with technical professionals (engineers, electricians, commissioning agents) Working knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, and procurement workflows QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of project management experience in building automation, energy efficiency, or HVAC controls Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems, or related field preferred PMP certification or equivalent project management training is a plus OSHA 30 or other safety certifications are advantageous This is a hybrid position based in the Boston, MA area.
