Ascension St. Vincent's Southside Hospital in Jacksonville, FL is looking for a Chief Medical Officer to join our team! What You Will Do
Responsibilities: Advocate for patients, physicians, and clinical staff. Develop physician leaders through coaching, mentoring, and leadership training. Monitor and improve clinical care quality using evidence-based practices to ensure patient safety, performance, and resource efficiency. Provide leadership in areas such as quality, safety, utilization review, peer review, growth, population health, and managed care. Oversee service development, policies, and programs including medical practice review, governance, credentialing, telemedicine, and more. Implement operational strategies focusing on quality, safety, performance, and physician recruitment. Manage operations, budgets, finances, and human resources. Evaluate new clinical business opportunities and develop strategic plans for service lines. Manage physician conduct issues, peer reviews, and medical staff decisions. Lead CME and educational programs for medical staff. Collaborate with staff to support clinical services and assume administrative leadership as needed. Ensure compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements; participate in surveys and inspections. Monitor medical practice trends and advise leadership on health policy matters. Act as an external advocate and facilitator with regulators; facilitate training and EMR development. Implement High Reliability Organization principles in physician activities. Serve as a physician advisor for care levels, length of stay, denials, appeals, and peer reviews. Perform other duties as assigned. What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration: MD/DO license from the Florida Board of Medicine, obtained within 12 months of hire. Additional Preferences
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong commitment to Catholic healthcare mission and values-driven leadership. Ability to lead in a complex, regional health system with operational and financial acumen. Excellent physician relationship skills and ability to develop collaborative strategies. Effective communication skills, building consensus and credibility. Understanding of delivering services across multiple sites within a growing system. Inclusive management style promoting diversity and quality care. Experience in developing clinical programs and measurement systems. Proven change management skills with sensitivity to organizational dynamics. Personal integrity, honesty, and ability to inspire aligned with Ascension’s mission. Work Experience: Minimum 5 years in physician executive leadership in an integrated medical group. Preferred 10+ years in similar leadership roles.
