Laboratory Technician Assistant (clinical lab assistant/phlebotomist)
Part-Time, 32hrs/week, variable 2:30p-11p, every other weekend required, rotating holidays as needed.
Job Summary
Performs, under minimal supervision, daily workflow management of the section. Responsible for training and competency assessments of new LTAs, phlebotomy students, and making recommendations on skill assessments. Collaborates to monitor phlebotomy status reports to ensure timely services. May be required to perform duties of LTA, Phlebotomist, and/or CLA as needed for patient care, and finds coverage when necessary. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent Phlebotomy and lab experience required Graduate of Phlebotomy Training program preferred Minimum Skills/Abilities
Committed to ongoing development through resources like in-services, educational programs, and on-the-job training Participates in staff meetings and reviews documentation as required Assists in orientation and mentoring of others Performs analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision Recognizes when to seek assistance or consultation Understands hospital and departmental policies, including safety procedures Awareness of hospital programs and services Certification/Licensure
Phlebotomy Certification preferred; ASCP certification/eligibility within a year Job Responsibilities
Training new LTAs and students, maintaining competency checklists Coordinating and monitoring activities of LTAs on shifts Distributing work assignments and liaising with other departments Demonstrating advanced skills in specimen collection and troubleshooting LIS devices Directing specimens appropriately and handling all related procedures Reviewing specimen status reports regularly and noting constraints Performing all duties of an LTA proficiently Carrying out other laboratory duties as directed Achieving at least 95% success rate in venipunctures Adhering to safety protocols and PPE usage Following departmental policies and engaging in quality improvement Receiving and verifying specimens from couriers Managing specimen processing and referral preparations Maintaining inventory and accurate records Complying with safety, infection control, and hazardous material policies Participating in safety training and compliance activities Performing additional duties as required, maintaining professionalism and respect for diversity Equal Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans
