AVP, Industry Practice Director – Manufacturing, Wholesale, Retail
Zurich North America is seeking an AVP Industry Practice Director to advance its Property and Casualty underwriting framework for the Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail industries. The role will deliver national-level strategy, support growth, and collaborate across the business unit with Underwriters, Brokers, and Actuarial partners.
This position should be proximate to an existing Zurich North America Middle Market Office location. Remote work may be considered but regular travel will be expected.
Key Accountabilities
Operationalize the underwriting strategy for the Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail industry practices to drive growth and profitability.
Develop and advance technical standards, controls, and practices for these industry practices.
Provide technical underwriting guidance to field staff on complex queries and referrals.
Participate in strategic and operational planning, contributing the industry perspective.
Create feedback mechanisms for information sharing across the business.
Develop solutions for industry issues and trends, identifying opportunities for new products and services.
Engage agencies in key relationships with the Head of Industry, Territory Leaders, and Underwriters; travel as required.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of underwriting experience, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of underwriting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of underwriting in property, general liability, auto, workers compensation and umbrella for the Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail space.
Ability to manage complex Property and Casualty underwriting portfolios and meet targets.
Proven influence and relationship-building skills.
Experience developing and implementing underwriting strategies for complex offerings.
Strong sales skills: active listening and win‑win negotiation.
Leadership presence and influence within large organizations.
Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
CPCU or CIC designation preferred.
Compensation Salary range: $113,000.00 – $185,000.00 with up to 20% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility.
