Responsibilities
Clinical Care – The Physician Assistant (PA) or the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. This includes diagnostic, therapeutic matters, collaboration with attending supervising physicians, and autonomous team‑based care as per state law and hospital regulations.
Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – The NP/PA educates patients/families on care, resources, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge instructions, and provides psychosocial support within a multidisciplinary team.
Information Management – The NP/PA ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements, protecting information confidentiality and integrity.
Quality Management – The NP/PA demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and patient‑care commitment, while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements.
Professional Development – The NP/PA engages in projects that maintain professional competency, serves as a clinical resource and preceptor, reports safety events, and collaborates on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
Qualifications Education Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
Experience Prefer clinical working experience as an NP/PA within the given specialty/service line. No prior experience required but highly valued.
Licensure Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS/BLS Certified; DEA License and PALS, NRP certifications may be required based on position profile.
1–3 Years of surgical experience as a PA. Trauma and General Surgery experience highly preferred. Robotics and laparoscopic skills preferred.
