Summary The SVP Commercial Banking is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of the strategic plans for the commercial production team. They will coordinate with the Executive Vice President to increase the Credit union's revenue and organization revenue goals by attracting new members in the business community. The role will coach and develop lenders on their team to promote assorted credit and depository products and services. Engage in and actively pursue leadership positions in community related activities to increase the Credit Union's market share and visibility. Successfully complete periodic compliance training deemed necessary by the Credit Union and comply with all applicable laws and Credit Union regulations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Keep abreast of local and national economic, financial, political and legislative events and climates which could have an impact on lending activities.
Promote a favorable image of the financial institution in all business activities within the community.
Manage revenue generation activities, such as Corporate & Commercial Lending, Commercial Real Estate & Construction, and Treasury Sales, through developing sales objectives, plans and tactics to achieve sales results in key result areas, and developing, coordinating and collaborating on marketing efforts and sales plans that address local market opportunities.
Direct plans or implement policies, objectives, or activities to ensure continuing operations, to maximize returns on investments.
Direct or coordinate activities concerned with production, pricing, or sales.
Responsible for management and strategy of loan portfolio and quality therein; oversee and recommend loan underwriting and administrative parameters.
Responsible for loan participations both sold and purchased in addition to all broker and servicer relationships.
Manage hiring recommendations; determine workload and delegate assignments; train, monitor and evaluate performance; and initiate corrective and disciplinary actions to include terminations.
Actively involved in the market at COI events.
Is well known as a key leader for Georgia’s Own Credit Union in the geography; serves on various leadership committees.
Collaborate with internal business units to coordinate resources and secure necessary support for the Commercial Lending Group.
Actively call with the relationship team on prospects, current members, and COIs.
Support the Georgia’s Own Credit Union branding efforts; create market awareness through direct participation in business development, member retention, and relationship enhancement activities.
Coach Commercial Lenders in the development of relationship/account plans and the cross selling of existing members.
Direct the expansion of commercial lending and business services to include OLBB, Treasury, Merchant services, Paychex and business deposits.
Work with credit partners to build consensus on risk tolerance, structure, hold levels, pricing and credit underwriting on new and existing credit transactions.
Direct sales efforts to ensure coverage of all targets within market.
Ensure sales activity levels necessary to generate pipelines adequate to meet goals.
Participate in the evaluation of credit union and bank acquisition targets. Assist in the integration of their commercial portfolio, products, and staff.
Analyze market conditions and strategically improve the Credit Union's market position for financial growth.
Implement the business unit’s development strategy to identify new business opportunities. Research the competition and generate potential leads.
Work with Chief Experience Officer and other Senior Leaders to develop and expand market approach for micro business lending and developing subject matter experts throughout the state to serve designated markets.
Educational and Work Experience Requirements
College degree in finance, business or related field.
15+ years of management experience.
15+ years of banking experience.
15+ years of sales or sales and management experience.
Leadership skills and ability to lead and develop a strong team.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial statements, loan documents, professional journals, and technical procedures.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of VPs, Directors, managers and lending officers.
Proven experience in community engagement and leadership.
Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
Excellent sales and public relations skills.
Ability to recognize opportunities and negotiate effectively.
Interpersonal skills to represent the Credit Union in a positive manner when dealing with clients and other employees.
Additional/Important Skillsets Willingness to travel to client and/or prospect locations.
Physical Requirements To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. All employees must be able to communicate face to face or through technology with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee will be in an office environment (well-lighted, heated, and air‑conditioned) typically stationed at a desk or table. The employee will be asked to sit and stand for various increments of time, and to lift/push up 10 lbs. Clerical office duties on various forms of technology are required.
