Department Overview The Department of Surgery is a multi‑faced organization within the School of Medicine. It is responsible for patient care, medical education, and research. The department includes full‑time faculty in general & bariatric surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery, and trauma & acute care surgery. The faculty provide surgical care to the people of eastern North Carolina, including pre‑operative and post‑operative care.

The department offers surgical education to medical students and residents daily, and it hosts a vibrant research program with funded grants and clinical trials. It hosts a high‑quality general surgery residency program with five categorical residents each year, and the Brody School of Medicine matriculates 92 students annually.

Job Duties ECU Health Physicians, ECU Health Medical Center, and the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine seek a fellowship‑trained pediatric surgeon to contribute to the growth of the pediatric surgery program. The candidate should be able to provide emergent and elective pediatric surgical procedures and be board‑eligible or board‑certified in general and pediatric surgery.

Minimum Education / Experience MD or DO from an accredited institution, or foreign medical education accepted for ECFMG Certification. Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in NC. Candidates must have completed a pediatric surgery fellowship and be board‑certified or board‑eligible in general and pediatric surgery.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation North Carolina Medical License.

Board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Surgery.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training / Education Proven interest and ability to teach residents and medical students, and to pursue clinical research.
