About the Role
Lead and champion business growth through global and regional BD&L deals by seeking, negotiating and closing collaborative external agreements across the BD&L disciplines.
Ensure smooth functioning of the assigned alliances.
Serve as the Corporate & Business Development representative on the enterprise‑wide TL leadership team for Cardiovascular, Renal, & Metabolism (CRM).
Key Responsibilities
Define Search & Evaluation (“S&E”) strategy and search priorities in close alignment with the business strategy (research, development and commercial) for all external opportunities throughout the value chain in the core Therapeutic Area.
Lead, educate, instruct and guide a team of S&E professionals in sourcing and vetting opportunities, delivering the S&E strategy with agility, creativity and accountability.
Represent Novartis externally in the core TA, acting as point of contact for all new business opportunities.
Contribute to re‑branding Novartis as the partner of choice by implementing a proactive, fast, and responsive S&E approach.
Engage with the biotech community and represent Novartis at major scientific conferences related to the core TA.
Attract, teach and develop talent within the S&E team and foster collaboration with other Corporate & Business Development sub‑teams and the wider organization.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization.
Develop and train talent within the S&E community and act as a role model of Novartis values and behaviors.
Essential Requirements Education Advanced degree in the life sciences (preferably PhD or MD/PhD).
Languages English essential; other languages (EU27, CN, JP) considered a plus.
Experience & Skills
10+ years in the pharmaceutical industry with 5+ years in BD&L related roles, focusing on R&D, early‑stage commercialization and Business Development.
Experience in Biotech, or as a Pharma Project Team Leader or strategy lead is preferable, especially in Cardiovascular, Renal, & Metabolism.
Deep understanding of pharmaceutical and medical science, drug development, and commercialization.
Deep knowledge of BD&L with a proven track record in opportunity prioritization, evaluation and deal making.
Entrepreneurial spirit to generate new ideas and ways of working.
Ability to lead without formal authority in a matrix environment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills with strong influencing abilities.
Strong ethical values and ability to build consensus.
Novartis Compensation Summary The salary for this position is expected to range between $225,400.00 and $418,600.00 per year. The final salary offered is determined based on relevant skills and experience and will be reviewed periodically. Compensation includes a performance‑based cash incentive and, depending on the level, eligibility for annual equity awards.
