At Houston Methodist, the Cardiac MRI (CMRI) Technologist II position requires an experienced cardiac MRI technologist who completes routine to complex diagnostic cardiovascular procedures, including high‑difficulty Cardiovascular MRI exams. As a member of the direct patient care team, the technologist is fully competent in all aspects of CMRI exams and serves as a mentor to CMRI Technologist I’s and students, utilizing skills and knowledge to train and educate others. The role works independently, exercising sound judgment and executing above‑average clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and patient care situations. The CMRI Technologist II may actively engage in research projects and activities and provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special procedures. This position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to CMRI exam standards and guidelines set by regulatory agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Collaborates with all members of the patient‑care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient‑care information and data in a comprehensive manner.

Guides and mentors Fellows/observers, CMRI Technologist I’s, and students to help build confidence in skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Service Essential Functions

Performs diagnostic cardiovascular procedures to include CMRI exams. Cardiac MRI creates both still and moving pictures of the heart and major blood vessels.

Performs a variety of high‑quality clinical and research Cardiac MRI exams, differentiating protocols and sequences as needed for each exam.

Ensures proper review of patient medical information and independently performs high‑quality diagnostic studies according to specified protocols for routine, specialty, and research studies while teaching, providing care to, and appropriately monitoring each patient. Performs post processing and enters data into report documentations.

Provides direct assistance to physicians during clinical and research procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.

Quality / Safety Essential Functions

Follows imaging and MRI safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Properly utilizes patient protective gear and immobilization during diagnostic procedures.

Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with infection control procedures. Complies with job, departmental, and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies.

Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement by providing recommendations and contributing to meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality and safety. Reports "near misses" and inputs errors promptly into the documentation system to improve processes and identify trends.

Ensures all imaging equipment has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive‑maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.

Finance Essential Functions

Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered and ensures correct charges are entered for the procedure performed.

Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Is self‑motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.

Participates in departmental projects and shared governance activities. Assumes ownership of one or more research projects as assigned.

Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a technologist.

Education

Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below.

Work Experience

Three years MRI experience with one year specifically in cardiovascular imaging; may consider a Houston Methodist CMRI Technologist with two years imaging experience of which one year is as a CMRI Technologist with Houston Methodist.
