Registered Nurse (RN) – ICSP Contract Position Location:
Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, TX Contract Type:
Temporary, Full-Time, On-Site Work Areas:
SICU, MICU, CCU, ER, Med/Surg, Stepdown, Spinal Cord Injury, Extended Care Unit Schedule:
12-hour shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights); Must work at least 2 weekend shifts/month Pay:
55.00/hr plus 4.93 for H&W Primary Responsibilities
Core Duties & Responsibilities: The RN shall provide direct patient care using professional nursing practices in accordance with the
Texas RN Practice Act
and VA clinical standards. Responsibilities include: Conduct comprehensive head-to-toe assessments Develop, maintain, and update interdisciplinary care plans Administer medications (including IV and blood products) using Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) with 100% accuracy Monitor patient response to treatment and perform interventions for acute or chronic conditions Perform and document wound care, tracheostomy care, ventilator care, suctioning, and tube feedings Insert and manage peripheral and central IV lines, including PICC lines Collect and process lab specimens; complete CPRS documentation Assess and educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and medications Evaluate and report PRN medication effectiveness Complete Braden Scale and Fall Risk Assessments, provide appropriate interventions Report patient incidents via Joint Patient Reporting System (JPRS) Respond to emergencies and participate in code response Provide clinical oversight to LPNs, CNAs, Health Technicians, and Intermediate Care Technicians Ensure compliance with PPE and hand hygiene standards Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications: Current, unrestricted
RN license
in any U.S. state or territory Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE) Proficient in
spoken and written English Credentialed in
VetPro Must pass
background check , drug screen, TB, and Hep B tests BLS certification
required for all areas ACLS certification
required for ICU, ER, Stepdown, and specialty care units Minimum
1 year of critical care experience
within the last 5 years for ICU/ER assignments Ability to perform full range of duties without physical restrictions Basic computer proficiency About Aptive
