Management of testing instrumentation includes knowledge and a level of expertise at trouble shooting, data flow related to the Laboratory Information systems during typical processes but includes the Laboratory Information systems or Hospital Systems downtime and recovery. This position performs medical diagnostic testing and specimen processing in the Clinical Laboratory. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.Job Description:6:00am to 2:30pm or 6:30am to 3:00pm Every 4th WeekendJob DutiesLead Medical Technician Position Description includes all the Role Responsibilities as a certified Laboratory Medical Technician and those listed below.Reports results within time limits established for procedures, reports results for STAT, critical values and other categories as defined by Laboratory policy, records patient data and other information quickly and accurately to ensure appropriate turnaround time and effective retrieval and ensures all technical staff meet the same criteria.Oversees, performs and documents/records quality control as specified for each procedure to meet established internal and regulatory guidelines and assists technical staff.Participates in Quality Assurance activities to meet quality improvement standards. Performs proficiency testing in the same manner as patient specimens. Ensures all incidents that do not meet standard operating procedures are documented by the technical staff in the appropriate QA software for follow-up and investigation.Understand basic principle(s) involved in assigned procedures. Assists in evaluating specimens for acceptability for proper testing. Assists and oversees investigation and documentation of problems with unacceptable specimens. Understands special handling requirements for test results that meet outlying criteria and can work with technical staff to resolve problems.Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals, blood or body fluids, follows all MSDS requirements for any chemical or reagent, disinfects laboratory benches, properly disposes of hazardous waste, reports safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.Attends all required Safety training programs, describes his/her responsibilities related to general safety, departmental safety and specific job related hazards. Participates in required Fire Drills or other safety related processes as determined by the department or organization. Ensures a safe environment by demonstrating knowledge of techniques, procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipment.Assists in the oversight and documentation of scheduled instrument maintenance in all assigned areas(s), ensures performance and documentation of instrument calibration according to scheduled intervals or receipt of reagents, trouble-shoots instruments as assigned by supervisor or designee.Collects specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures for timely and accurate testing. Cleans, organizes and stocks lab work stations so work can be performed in a safe and orderly manner and follows all Safety policies and procedures, i.e. personal protective clothing, face shields, etc.Enhances professional growth development of self, departmentstaff, other hospital personnel, community and students by but not limited to, participation in continuing education and in-service training.Ensures that all technical staff are cognizant of any cost saving activities to meet any and all budgetary parameters and work with the Supervisor or designee of the correct and appropriate ordering of reagents, rotating stock to minimize waste and outdating as well as maximizing the human resources by ensuring proper use of technical staff overtime and scheduling.Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Credentials, Licenses: Associate’s Degree in a Relevant Science with technician training program in a school accredited/approved by HHS or MLT eligible under Medicare/CLIA regulation(s) AND has certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency as a Medical Laboratory TechnicianORBe a high school graduate or equivalent who successfully completed an official military medical laboratory course of (50) weeks and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of (Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) with ASCP Certification.Kind and Length of Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience post-graduation from a Medical Laboratory Technician Program, either in a laboratory department as a generalist or in a laboratory section with specialized experience.Experience must be in a similar hospital laboratory environment for which the position is assigned, i.e. Acute Care Hospital Laboratory or Rapid Response LaboratoryFLSA Status: Non-ExemptRight Career.
