Job Description The Child Nutrition Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the district’s child nutrition program to ensure the provision of nutritious, cost-effective, and compliant meals for students. This includes menu planning, budget management, compliance with state and federal regulations, staff supervision, and promoting healthy eating habits among students.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (required); Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).

Knowledge:

USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and other federal/state child nutrition programs.

Experience:

Managing budgets, procurement, and inventory in a food service environment.

Supervisory Experience:

Previous supervisory experience, including staff training and development.

Certifications & Licenses:

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire); Arkansas Department of Education Child Nutrition Director Certification (preferred or required within a specified timeframe).

Additional Requirements:

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for training and district needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, and dietary guidelines for children.

Understanding of state and federal regulations regarding school meal programs.

Proficiency in budget management, cost control, and food service operations.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage staff and work with students, parents, and school administrators.

Ability to use technology and software for menu planning, reporting, and compliance documentation.

Problem‑solving skills to handle food service challenges, including staffing, inventory shortages, and compliance issues.

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP procedures.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Standing and walking for extended periods in a kitchen environment.

Exposure to kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces, sharp objects, and cleaning chemicals.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment, especially during meal service times.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
