Adjunct Instructor - PCA - Phlebotomy

Goodwin University is seeking an adjunct instructor for our Phlebotomy Program. The program prepares students for professional careers while promoting lifelong learning and civic responsibility.

Position Description Summary / Purpose

The Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction, hands‑on training, and supervision to students enrolled in the Phlebotomy Program. All course content aligns with institutional standards, industry best practices, and applicable health and safety regulations. This position involves preparing and delivering engaging classroom and laboratory lessons, demonstrating proper venipuncture and specimen collection techniques, evaluating student performance, and fostering a professional learning environment that promotes competence and confidence.

Essential Job Functions / Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings following the approved curriculum.
  • Demonstrate and supervise venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen collection procedures in accordance with safety and infection‑control protocols.
  • Evaluate and document student performance, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student progress records in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Ensure that lab materials and equipment are maintained in a safe, organized, and functional condition.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and ongoing program development.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with accreditation and state requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting professionalism and ethical practice among students.

  • Engage in continuing professional development to stay current with trends.
  • Assist other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, specimen collection procedures, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Understanding of infection control, HIPAA compliance, and OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate and support a diverse student body.
  • Proficiency in classroom management and student assessment methods.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills to coordinate instruction, lab activities, and evaluations.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, student‑centered learning environment.
  • Capacity to stay current with developments in the field of phlebotomy and healthcare education.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology platforms.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational practice.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree (or higher) in a health‑related field.
  • Prior teaching experience, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning.
  • Current Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience as a phlebotomist or related healthcare professional.
  • Basic healthcare credentials such as BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Special Requirements

  • Valid license and insured vehicle (travel to clinical sites may be required).
  • Must have completed a Train‑the‑Trainer program approved by the CT Department of Public Health.
  • Must pass background and health screenings per regulatory guidelines.
