We are a leading hospital in the Elmira area, Arnot Health committed to delivering excellent inpatient care in a collegial, community-oriented setting. Our hospitalist service plays a key role in coordinating inpatient care, improving throughput and outcomes, and working closely with other hospital departments, leadership and frontline staff.

Position Summary The Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service will provide leadership for the inpatient hospitalist program, combining clinical practice with administrative responsibilities. This role is designed for a physician who is passionate about inpatient medicine, engaging in patient care, supporting quality initiatives, mentoring providers, and working to optimize service operations.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the hospitalist service: staffing models, coverage, scheduling, service-line metrics (census, productivity, quality, length of stay, readmission), budget oversight, and operational efficiency.

Develop, implement and monitor clinical protocols, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives in the inpatient setting.

Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and hospital policy standards (e.g., The Joint Commission).

Participate in meetings, committees, and service-line strategic planning; report metrics and improvement opportunities.

Promote physician engagement, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Maintain an active inpatient practice as a hospitalist

Qualifications

MD or DO degree from accredited institution.

Board certified in Internal Medicine (with hospitalist experience).

Must hold (or be eligible for) a New York State medical license.

Significant inpatient hospitalist experience: prior leadership/administrative experience preferred.

Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, collaborative mindset.

Experience in mentoring/coaching physicians preferred.

Schedule & Setting

Clinical commitment: 7AM -7PM/mid-shift 3PM – 3AM

Census 20-25 patients per day

Closed ICU, No procedures, (step down unit)
