Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Supply Chain The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Supply Chain at Appalachian Regional Healthcare is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the supply chain operations, including procurement, distribution/logistics, central warehouse management, laundry services, strategic sourcing, and value analysis. This position ensures efficient and cost‑effective supply chain practices that support the healthcare system's mission of providing exceptional patient care.

Overview The AVP of Supply Chain will develop policies and cost‑containment strategies to standardize and streamline supply chain operations, create value for patients, providers and ARH, implement continuous improvement efforts, integrate services with enterprise strategy, and assist in setting measurable system and departmental goals and performance standards. They will also foster strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders, meet with end‑users regularly to troubleshoot issues, provide ongoing operational support, and determine future needs.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure timely and cost‑effective acquisition of goods and services.

Negotiate contracts with suppliers, strategic partners and service providers to secure favorable terms and industry‑best pricing.

Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors, including quarterly business reviews.

Monitor and assess supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, quality standards and vendor registration policy.

Work closely with stakeholders to ensure product availability.

Strategic Sourcing

Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives to identify and capitalize on cost‑saving opportunities.

Manage relationships with Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and conduct market research to identify new suppliers.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align sourcing strategies with organizational goals.

Utilize benchmarking tools and GPO resources to negotiate maximum value.

Value Analysis

Establish value analysis strategy, team, policy and related processes.

Lead initiatives to evaluate, standardize and optimize the cost‑effectiveness of products and services within the system.

Collaborate with clinical and operational stakeholders to assess impact on patient care and outcomes.

Implement continuous improvement processes (LEAN, Kaizen, utilization enhancements).

Logistics

Oversee planning and coordination of logistics operations for supplies, laundry and equipment.

Manage courier service, transportation and distribution networks to optimize efficiency.

Implement best practices for inventory management, including demand forecasting and stock replenishment.

Central Warehouse Management

Lead operations of the central warehouse, ensuring accurate inventory and efficient storage, handling and distribution.

Implement warehouse management systems to enhance distribution, productivity and inventory accuracy.

Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Laundry Services

Oversee management of laundry services, ensuring efficient processing and delivery of linens.

Implement quality control measures to maintain high hygiene standards.

Monitor and optimize operations to achieve cost savings and efficiencies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related field (Master’s preferred).

7‑10 years of experience in supply chain management, preferably within healthcare.

Proven leadership record managing supply chain functions.

Strong negotiation, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across large health systems.

Proficiency in supply chain management software and technologies.

Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multitask.

Professional memberships preferred (AHRMM, HFMA, ACHE).
