Job Overview A tax senior will execute multiple tax engagements to deliver quality tax services for our domestic and international business clients. This position offers excellent opportunities for learning and growth as well as a collegial environment in which to work.
Objective The Tax Senior will assist in the effective and efficient operations of the tax practice area. This practice area should reflect firm values: a quality process and outcome, IRS knowledge and compliance, excellent client communication that results in our firm’s reputation as a preferred partner in this area of service. This practice will be technology-driven and leadership is expected to identify best practices and consistently implement process improvements. Leadership for this practice area includes leading a team of individuals that will support this service and be competent in its delivery. This position reports to the Partner.
Functions
Prepares/reviews federal and state income tax returns for individuals, businesses, real estate, exempt organizations, trusts and estates; FBAR and PFIC calculations for Streamline Clients
Completion of Year End financial statement adjustments for tax
Acts as a resource for tax staff, staff attorneys and partners
Performs complex tax research as requested
Prepares tax planning and estimates and becomes involved in planning for more complex clients
Directs and coordinates tax planning for less complex client situations
Assists accounting and consulting staff members in client meetings
Reviews tax accruals and associated working papers
Assists in managing tax department administrative projects
Assists in the smooth flow of tax returns and continues improvement efforts
Contributes to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service
Assists in tax software and technology process development and enhancements
Establishes workflow and timelines as it relates to projects
Facilitates in-house tax training
Solicits feedback on tax season performance and formulates an action plan for the following year incorporating that feedback
Develops policies and procedures to effectively carry out his or her area of responsibility for the firm, including the effective administration of the department
Develops and maintains an expertise in the taxation area
Keeps all staff in the firm informed of changes and developments in the taxation area
Plans, coordinates and conducts, with the Partner Group, the training necessary to develop and maintain the competence of all personnel, on a need-to-know basis, in the taxation area
Develops and identifies the capability of the firm to provide additional needed services for clients in the taxation area
Interpersonal Skills
Exhibits time management and organization skills
Builds new and existing client relationships and demonstrates basic knowledge of client’s businesses
Maintains contacts with peers, develops network of business contacts, meets with prospective clients and cultivates referrals
Develops means of communication to clients and persons responsible for maintaining relationship with clients
Continues to develop industry expertise
Understands firm ethics and demonstrates them consistently
Develops a broad general knowledge of economic, political, and business conditions
Performs such other duties as may be assigned
Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related program.
Advanced degree or enrollment in an advanced degree program, preferred
CPA license; preferred
Prior experience in public accounting and tax
Minimum of 3 years in competently preparing tax returns
Strong accounting and analytical skills
Research proficiency
Strong computer skills: proficiency preferred, but not required in Thompson Reuters
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task
Well-rounded in dealing with high net worth individuals and complex businesses
