About the Role The Senior Clinical Laboratory Associate (CLA) supports the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory and assists the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) during patient testing. The role includes backup support to Research and Reagent Manufacturing groups, leading the CLA team, coordinating tasks, managing projects, and reviewing documents.

Key requirements include excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication, multitasking ability, and the capacity to work independently within a team.

Pay Differential:

Employees working the 2nd shift receive a 20% pay differential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Identify and troubleshoot high‑complexity problems affecting test performance for research samples.

Train new laboratory personnel and guide implementation of new procedures.

Assist with internal audits and inspection preparation.

Organize and maintain laboratory, equipment, personnel, and training documents.

Set up liquid handlers and assist with automated procedures.

Ensure on‑time calibration of laboratory equipment.

Report test quality and safety concerns to the supervisor or safety officer.

Collaborate with CLSs, accessioning teams, and reagent manufacturing team to support the service department.

Write and revise standard operating procedures.

Identify process improvements and report to laboratory management.

Provide guidance and peer review feedback to new CLAs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Perform equipment maintenance per standard operating procedures.

Create sample batches, label tubes and plates, and maintain inventory of materials and supplies.

Monitor temperature, record data, and initiate service requests as needed.

Assist CLSs during automated testing methods.

Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.

Participate in projects under CLS or supervisor guidance while maintaining quality workflow.

Lead training of new CLAs on current and new procedures.

Manage CLA schedules, delegate tasks, and assign duties based on staffing and workload.

Report test quality and safety concerns to the laboratory supervisor, director, or safety officer.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Hybrid Work Model Eligible onsite employees may work a hybrid schedule. Employees living within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Compensation Base salary range: $42,000 – $58,000 per year (Redwood City, CA). Same range applies for additional US locations. (Colorado: $42,000 – $58,000.)
