Senior Software Engineer – Ruby on Rails (PayPal)
Join PayPal’s Braintree Fraud Tools team to design, develop, and ship innovative solutions that improve product quality, observability, performance, and monitoring. This role focuses on building high‑impact features and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver industry‑leading fraud detection and decision‑making products. Responsibilities
Drive the full software development lifecycle—design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations—of new features and tools. Collaborate closely with product, analytics, and other engineering groups to define requirements and deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions. Own the implementation of modules, services, or products, ensuring clean, efficient, and well‑tested code. Contribute to architecture discussions, API design, and system integration to support millions of users. Identify product or functionality gaps, working with internal teams to develop and prioritize enhancements. Apply best practices in coding, testing, and DevOps to maintain high quality and performance. Qualifications
3+ years of relevant professional experience. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications
Deep knowledge of Ruby and experience building applications in the Rails framework. Experience with Java reactive programming and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Framework). Strong grasp of web services (REST/JSON, gRPC) and related standards. Proficiency in object‑oriented programming and design patterns. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, Aerospike, Redis). Hands‑on experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and TestNG. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and cross‑geo collaboration. Financial or payments industry experience is a plus. Track record of delivering highly available, scalable systems on schedule.
