Recruitment is currently open. This hybrid position is based at our Actuarial Hub Locations in Chicago, IL; Radnor, PA; Warren, NJ; New York City, NY; and Walnut Creek, CA.

As a member of CNA’s Actuarial organization, you will work within a community that provides deep specialization and discipline as trusted advisors, unlocks data to enable business partners to advance our global market strategy, and drives business solutions through actionable analytics and insights. You will assist in developing actuarial pricing and rating plans, collaborate with business partners and Actuarial leaders, and provide actuarial analyses to influence pricing, claims, underwriting, and reserving decisions.

For candidates still sitting for exams, you will participate in our Actuarial Education Program, which offers competitive study support and exam raises.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Collaborate with business partners and functional subject matter experts, providing actuarial input as needed.

Partner with peers, business partners, and leaders to support a specific segment’s strategy through actionable insights and analytics.

Provide support in determining pricing/reserving strategy for an assigned area, creating and modifying existing tools/analytics as needed.

Proactively monitor trends and share results with actuarial leaders and peers.

Provide support to less experienced team members and help manage projects as needed.

Stay up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.

Produce standard and special reports as needed.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship Director or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.

Demonstrated technical expertise and product‑specific knowledge.

Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners, sometimes influencing decisions.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues, demonstrating attention to detail.

Ability to make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.

Ability to work independently and as a team, and manage multiple moderately complex projects.

Ability to comprehend business data and metrics and to articulate analyses of actuarial data within internal reports.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.

Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience.

Typically at least three to five successfully completed CAS exams; may include Associateship.

In Illinois, California, and New York the average base pay range for an Actuarial Consultant is $97,000 to $137,500 annually. Salary determinations are based on experience, skills, certifications and location.
