Your Opportunity Stantec has an immediate need for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to provide technical leadership on a variety of water resource projects. This role is part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team and involves expertise in flood mitigation, stormwater management, green infrastructure, stream restoration, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, mapping, and flood‑risk communication.

The position will include managing interdisciplinary teams, directing project design and analysis, approving permits, and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

Your Key Responsibilities

Work under minimal supervision to assign, review, and evaluate new project orders and coordinate interdisciplinary teams as needed.

Ensure conformance with Stantec’s Project Management Framework (PMF).

Develop stormwater, drainage, and erosion & sediment control designs for civil, transportation, and environmental projects.

Prepare complete submission packages, calculations, cost estimates, project schedules, and facilitate agency reviews.

Process construction permits through local permitting agencies.

Oversee and lead flood studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, and floodplain mapping.

Perform surface‑water modelling using 1D/2D HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HEC‑SSP, USGS tools, and others.

Support Flood Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) projects or similar studies.

Develop Conditional Letters of Map Revisions (CLOMRs), Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs), and No‑Rise Analyses.

Manage multiple projects of average complexity/size.

May serve as Engineer‑of‑Record (EOR) on project tasks.

Lead project coordination meetings with internal and external parties.

Participate in client requirement meetings and value‑analysis/non‑cost estimation when required.

Delegate tasks to junior staff and collaborate across teams.

Develop and manage project scope, budget, staffing, and schedules.

Ensure strict compliance with contractual requirements.

Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts for future opportunities, budgeting, and staffing.

Create fee proposals for diverse projects with cross‑discipline cooperation.

Conduct quality reviews of other engineers’ work and peer reviews on applicable projects.

Mentor and supervise junior staff to promote career development.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

High attention to detail, strong time‑management and organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication.

Strong project‑management experience, including scoping, scheduling, and reporting throughout project implementation.

Proven experience in delivering technical design tasks and driving project delivery.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Project).

Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley CAD (MicroStation, Open Roads Designer) and ProjectWise.

Experience with plan approval and permitting in Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and/or the District of Columbia.

Proven capabilities in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling (HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, PCSWMM/XPSWMM or equivalent; 2D modelling preferred).

Proven capabilities in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap.

Ability to travel locally on short notice within the DC metro area.

Professional and positive communication with coworkers, clients, employees, and the public.

Ability to present to small and large groups across a wide range of projects.

Independent and team‑oriented work ethic.

Accuracy and completeness oversight on others’ work.

Good driving record and valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Civil, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field (Masters preferred).

Minimum of 3 years’ prior experience in a similar role.

Minimum of 7 years of water‑resources design and analysis experience in a professional engineering firm.

Professional licensure (PE) required.

Pay Range Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ areas – $117,800.00 – $176,800.00 annually.
