Radiologic Technologist Outpatient

Position Summary The Radiologic Technologist will work under the supervision of the Director and/or designee. Performs routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists Radiologists when needed. Prepares, operates and cares for equipment being used. Develops and processes film and CDs when necessary. Adheres to established radiology “standards of care”. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Adheres to practice wide customer service programs. Performs other duties such as quality assurance. Performs diagnostic and some special procedure medical radiographic images. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires.
Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produces good technical images, reviewing completed exams for quality, completeness for the type of test ordered.
Assists physicians during practice‑based procedures as necessary.
Performs equipment quality assurance and calibrations as needed, orders supplies.
May be required to work holidays, overtime and/or day, evening and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the outpatient facility.
Maintains cleanliness of all work areas, equipment and accessories. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to Bio‑Med or supervisor.
Processes images or prints CDs as needed.
Performs routine office tasks such as answering phones, checking‑in patients, obtaining previous reports/films.
Shows Radiologist films and calls reports to the attending physician and documents communications if necessary (wet readings).
Provides clinical instructions to students.
Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the WPH’s behavioral standards.
Introduces self and educates each patient or family member regarding the examination that is ordered.
Knowledgeable and skillful in providing care based on age, physical and psychosocial needs of different patient populations including neonates, pediatric/adolescent, adults and geriatric groups.
Performs other related duties as required and attends staff meetings and in‑services.
Coverage rotation to other outpatient sites.
Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the off‑site practice.
Position is eligible for specialty certification compensation.
Education & Experience Requirements
The Radiologic Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital‑based program. NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required and certification through ARRT‑RT and/or registered RT (R).
Continuing education requirements must be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 CE credits over a two‑year period depending on year of birth.
DOH IV certification preferred or provided upon completion of 6‑month orientation.
BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.
Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology will be performed during orientation and before end of probationary period.

Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods.
Frequently moves/transports objects up to 50 pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device/equipment.
Must work in an environment with continuous interruptions.
Must assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department and hospital.
Must adapt in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with multiple interruptions.
Must detect sounds and respond to emergency signals at all times.
Must constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices.
Requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty minutes at a time.
Individual must understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given throughout the day.
