Job Description The Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) Director is an essential team member who will lead multiple client engagement teams, ensuring financial due diligence engagements are executed in a timely manner and that client expectations are met, if not exceeded. The role supports the overall national TAS strategy, oversees practice development responsibilities—including business development, risk management, resource planning, performance management, and cross‑selling other BDO services—and fosters client relationships.
Job Duties
Lead client engagement teams throughout the entire project lifecycle, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of quality services.
Examine complex deal‑related issues and provide appropriate insight, including quality of earnings adjustments, pro‑forma/normalization calculations, working capital analysis, debt analysis, warranties and indemnities, and sale and purchase agreement review.
Lead the full spectrum of transaction advisory work in buy‑side and sell‑side mandates.
Set standards for quality and consistency, bringing sophistication to client engagements.
Coach and mentor staff in due diligence, decision making, report writing, and project management.
Work with engagement teams to compose and review due diligence reports for client presentations on M&A decisions.
Ensure client expectations are met, maintain relationships, and resolve client issues.
Leverage BDO’s firm‑wide capabilities beyond TAS during client engagements.
Identify risks related to the transaction and communicate findings to clients.
Collaborate with TAS practice leadership to further develop practice initiatives and strategy.
Pursue business development opportunities through industry and networking relationships.
Lead proposal development and conduct presentations to acquire new clients.
Partner with BDO office management to promote TAS services to existing and prospective clients.
Provide verbal and written performance feedback to TAS team members throughout the fiscal year, supporting the annual performance review process.
Perform other duties as required.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance (required).
MBA (preferred).
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
At least eight (8) years of prior financial statement–related professional services experience (required).
Five (5) or more years in a dedicated TAS environment with complex national and multi‑national buy and sell‑side transactions (required).
Carve‑out experience (preferred).
Prior experience interacting with C‑level personnel (preferred).
Experience at a Big 4 or other top‑tier consulting firm (preferred).
CPA (preferred).
Strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills (required).
Excellent project management and communication skills, a sense of urgency, and drive to serve clients.
Demonstrated ability to lead engagements, supervise staff, and respond to client needs.
Solid knowledge of technical accounting, such as US GAAP.
Executive presence and strong business acumen.
Strong verbal and written communication, including business writing aptitude.
Proven ability to build relationships with all levels of client personnel and leverage industry networks for business development.
Capability to work in a demanding, deadline‑driven environment independently or in a team, managing unexpected issues professionally.
Ability to travel as needed.
Licenses & Certifications
CPA (preferred).
Remuneration National Range: $180,000 – $280,000. Maryland Range: $180,000 – $280,000. NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $180,000 – $280,000.
