The Vice President (VP) of Learning & Development (L&D) role at Portage Point represents a unique opportunity to assume a wide range of responsibilities and make a significant impact. This VP, L&D is a key member of the Human Resource (HR) function and plays a critical role in shaping and executing firmwide L&D strategy. The VP, L&D will report directly to the Head of HR and lead the design and implementation of programs that enhance team member skills, professional growth and organizational capability. This person will collaborate closely with senior leaders across the firm to drive a culture of continuous learning and high performance. Responsibilities
Develop and build upon a strategic learning roadmap for the firm
Evaluate organizational learning needs to identify skill gaps and opportunities for development
Design, launch and manage high‑impact learning programs in partnership with subject matter experts, ensuring consistency and quality
Adapt learning strategies to diverse audiences and scale initiatives to support organizational growth
Measure program effectiveness and use data insights to drive continuous improvement, including but not limited to completion rates, feedback and skills metrics
Leverage new technologies, tools and best practices to enhance the learning experience and support a culture of professional growth
Maintain and optimize learning systems, surveys and team member skills data
Collaborate on broader People initiatives including onboarding, performance management and HR systems to advance the overall firm talent strategy
Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members
Lead and support internal trainings and best practice sharing
Support talent acquisition and firm‑building initiatives
Contribute to a high‑performing, inclusive and values‑driven culture
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
Located in or willing to relocate to Chicago, Dallas or New York
Invested in a team‑based culture and motivated to collaborate in office four days per week
Five plus years of experience in L&D with proven experience in instructional design, curriculum development and facilitation
Two plus years in professional services, experience at a blue‑chip consultancy, private equity, investment banking or start‑up environment is preferred
Strong project management abilities, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Analytical and strategic mindset with the ability to interpret data and metrics to drive decision‑making
Superior written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑ready presentation and reporting skills
Proven ability to thrive in lean, fast‑moving teams
High attention to detail, responsiveness and ownership mindset
Track record of success in high‑pressure, client‑facing environments
$155,000 - $200,000 a year
In accordance with pay transparency laws in the City of New York and the State of California, Portage Point provides a good‑faith cash compensation range for this position. This range represents the cash compensation (base plus bonus) that the firm reasonably expects to pay upon hire, based on good‑faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The final compensation within this range will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, education, training, experience and location. In addition to cash compensation, Portage Point may offer comprehensive benefits and equity participation, which are not reflected in the pay range above.
