Job Description Salary Range:

$120,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience.

Position Summary:

The Process Engineer will work in a team environment on developing and troubleshooting wafer fabrication processes in dry etch, wet etch, photo, plating, metallization, grind, and measurement, as well as the integration of these processes to produce high‑yielding MEMS die. The role requires a cleanroom environment and a Master’s or PhD in material science, engineering, physics, applied physics, chemistry, or a related field, with preferably five or more years of hands‑on MEMS fabrication and characterization experience.

Knowledge:

Specialized knowledge in semiconductor and MEMS fabrication, contributing creatively and effectively to product development.

Job Complexity:

Handles complex issues requiring evaluation of variable factors; exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and criteria for results. Communicates effectively with fab personnel and in cross‑site meetings.

Supervision:

Determines methods and procedures for new assignments; coordinates activities of other personnel; works self‑directed.

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 6 years with a Master’s, or 3 years with a PhD, or equivalent experience.

Essential Job Functions

Develop manufacturing process flows for new or improved MEMS devices.

Characterize MEMS devices using various metrology and analytical tools.

Develop new or improved manufacturing and testing processes to achieve performance and cost requirements.

Troubleshoot fab processes and correct problems using experimental methods such as DOE; present findings to the team.

Prepare analysis reports.

Interface with manufacturing and engineering departments as well as vendors.

Communicate with fab personnel and other engineers face‑to‑face and via remote meetings to resolve problems and accomplish work.

Use problem‑solving and project management skills to address a wide variety of technical issues.

Qualifications Required

BS in Material Science, MEMS, Material Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related field.

Experience in MEMS fabrication, characterization, or metrology.

Wafer fab experience.

Good problem‑identification and solving skills.

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to present information to peers and management.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent analytical skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to work in a cleanroom environment.

Ability to prioritize and finish assigned work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Desired

Experience in MEMS process integration from concept to finished product.

Knowledge of MEMS devices such as ink‑jet printheads, resonators, sensors, or actuators.

Semiconductor processing experience: photolithography, PVD, wet/dry etching, wafer bonding, mask design software.

Experience with piezo inkjet or other MEMS devices incorporating fluidic, electrical, and packaging designs.

Experience in MEMS design.

Physical Demands

Standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk or hear about one third of the time.

Sitting one to two thirds of the time.

Work Environment

Wafer fabrication and cleanroom environment; requires cleanroom gowning (bunny suit, mask, gloves, hair net, booties).

Exposure to stored energy hazards, moderate noise levels, and hazardous chemicals.
