Position Summary Expedite, facilitate and support the clinical work done by the anesthesia professional or caregiver by procuring, assembling, troubleshooting, maintaining, cleaning and ensuring anesthesia equipment is operational. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities

SUPPLIES - Stock anesthesia carts with supplies to be used for line insertion, intubation and airway management during surgery

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Ensure anesthesia workroom has adequate inventory, is well organized and maintained

PROCEDURES - Use sterile technique and follow universal protocol, assist with room preparation and turnover by removing soiled supplies and equipment disposing of material in accordance with infection control policy

PROCEDURES - Identify normal and physiologic and laboratory values associated with the administration of anesthesia recognizing basic function and understand anatomy as related to anesthesia

PROCEDURES - Differentiate between general, regional and monitored anesthesia and set up basic supplies and equipment appropriate to the anesthetic procedure

PROCEDURE - Clean, sterilize and perform high level disinfecting of reusable equipment and supplies. Differentiate between techniques of cleaning, high-level disinfecting and sterilizing

PROCEDURE - Upon request of the anesthesia provider make available medications, assemble and assist with the operation of specialized equipment, i.e., cell saver, rapid infusion pump

PROCEDURE - Assist with airway management set up and use of emergency intubation kits, fiber optic scopes, LMA’s, glidescope, airway exchange catheters and verify suction present and functioning in every anesthetic area

PROCEDURE - Understanding and use of Anesthesia Machines, Gas Delivery, and Monitors by calibration and trouble shooting of anesthesia equipment, replacing CO2 absorbers, performing leak test, identify proper handling of respiratory and anesthetic gas cylinders

PROCEDURE - Draw blood samples from indwelling line for laboratory test under direct supervision of anesthesia provider

PROCEDURE - Set up and assist with placement of pressure lines for indwelling catheters, arterial, central venous, left atrial, pulmonary artery

RELATED WORK - Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Qualifications Education:

High School or GED Equivalent

Certification

Completion of Certified Anesthesia Tech Program (Essential)

Related - Post High School (Nonessential)

Experience:

2 years directly related experience (Essential)

Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo (Nonessential)

Credentials:

CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer within 30 days (Essential)

Certified Anesthesia Technician (Essential)

Physical Conditions:

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Working Conditions:

Significant Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE

May be required or is required to perform on-call duties

Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required

Compensation Sign-On Bonus Available. Receive 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights and 15% Weekend Day shift differentials. Minimum Offer: $17.86/hr. Maximum Offer: $26.78/hr.

Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations.
