Assistant Professor - Cardiac Surgery

Overview The Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full‑time tenure track Investigator at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be housed within the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital with cross‑functional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Partner with surgeon‑scientists to develop innovative engineering solutions to common cardiac operations.
Develop and secure an independent line of extramural funding.
Work closely with our innovations programs on developing patent applications.
Mentor other scientists in this area.
Qualifications
PhD in biomedical engineering, materials science, or a similar degree path.
Expertise in working with surgeon‑scientists to create solutions with broad applicability.
Preferred: Surgical prototype development experience.
The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled. The expected base pay range is $115,000 – $150,000 per year with annual merit increases, determined by experience, qualifications, departmental budget, and market comparables.
