Overview The Manager of Mechanical Engineering is based in Horsham, PA. The role leads the mechanical design and development of complex wafer processing equipment, involving wet processing technologies used in the manufacturing of semiconductor components. The manager provides technical and project leadership for the mechanical team, engages in engineering design activities across all phases, and coordinates with cross‑functional groups including Operations, Marketing, Technology, Technical Product Services, and Supply chain. This high‑energy, fast‑paced position focuses on driving process and team improvements to grow the business.

Responsibilities

Manage and lead Mechanical Engineering activities at the PSP/Horsham location; supervise and mentor team members, including outsourced vendors and consultants.

Define design specifications based on customer requirements and industry standards; verify design intent and ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.

Lead the team through all phases of the design process for new product and continuous product improvement programs, including concept, prototyping, development, qualification, and production.

Ensure programs are executed on time, within budget, and meet design specifications, cost targets, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and present mechanical designs at peer reviews and cross‑function design reviews.

Interface with electrical, process, software engineering, marketing, and operations teams.

Continuously seek opportunities to increase efficiency of the design and build processes.

Support supply chain with mechanical material procurement efforts within project deadlines.

Drive all engineering documentation and deliverables, including product BOMs, P&IDs, and engineering drawings, preparing, updating, and releasing them in accordance with company format and procedural requirements.

Provide technical support for escalations on released products when additional support is requested by Field Service or Operations teams.

Manage internally and externally sourced engineering changes (ECs) that comply with the Veeco change process and support program schedule requirements.

Resolve obsolescence issues in a timely manner.

Establish goals and performance metrics to improve work product quality and efficiency; create training and development plans for direct and indirect reports, helping the team achieve career goals and higher performance levels.

Identify and implement process improvements within the team and across functional interfaces.

Act as a mentor to individual team members and the entire team, providing guidance in technical, project management, product development, core team building, and skills development.

Inspire the team to strive for continuous improvement in innovation, design, and development.

Qualifications BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 8 years of experience or an MS degree with at least 6 years of related experience and at least 5 years of people‑management experience is required. Project management experience is also required. Must be proficient using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SAP, or a similar MRP system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience developing capital equipment; experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, taking initiative, owning full projects, and leading a team of mechanical engineers.

Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects within specified time and budgetary restrictions.

Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, robotics, instrumentation, electronic packaging, and SEMI regulatory standards is a plus.

Ability to read and understand Plumbing and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) is required.

Familiarity with plumbing system design using standard and custom components used in high‑purity gas and wet‑chemical processing equipment (valves, fittings, etc.).

Experience designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to make technical presentations.

Skilled in standard drafting practices within SolidWorks, part detailing, and ANSI tolerancing.

Familiarity with packaging of plumbing components and standard metal parts fabrication, machining, and sheet metal.

General knowledge of electrical and software engineering disciplines.

Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to drive change and improvements within the team.

In‑depth understanding of the product design phase‑gate review process.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Project and Teams).

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as‑needed basis.

Salary and Benefits The expected salary range for this position is $125,000–$160,000, plus a bonus opportunity. Pay is determined by location, experience, and other job‑related factors.
