A leading real estate organization in the DC Metro area is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join its corporate finance team. This organization specializes in multifamily and mixed-use properties and operates in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience from REITs or similar real estate platforms and will be comfortable managing accounting operations across multiple entities and projects.
This is a high-impact role with visibility across finance, operations, and leadership. The Accounting Manager will oversee general ledger activities, financial reporting, and internal controls, while supporting budgeting, audits, and system improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities
Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Support external audits and coordinate with third-party auditors
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Maintain and improve accounting systems and processes
Collaborate with property management and asset management teams
Supervise junior accounting staff and support professional development
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in real estate or REIT environments
Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
Experience with property-level and corporate-level accounting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, NetSuite)
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting
