Job Description and Position Requirements We are seeking highly motivated, self‑starting DevSecOps Research and Development Engineers to join our team in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. These positions would work out of our State College, PA, Reston, VA, San Diego, CA or Hawaii locations/offices.

Responsibilities

Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments.

Manage continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency.

Improve systems through updates and optimizations using various technologies.

Present program overviews, proposals, and technical briefings at internal and external events.

Coordinate with sponsors and team members to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project‑level activity on a day‑to‑day basis.

This job can be filled at multiple levels, depending upon the successful candidate’s education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Science discipline. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level jobs.

Required Qualifications

Strong experience with Linux‑based infrastructures, Linux/Unix administration.

Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and Ansible.

Experience with version control software such as Git.

Experience with open‑source technologies and cloud services such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience with logging, search, and/or aggregation tools such as Splunk, Elastic, or Prometheus.

Stellar troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot issues before they become problems.

Strong communication skills and ability to explain protocol and processes with team and management.

Well‑organized, independent and ready to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Working with Atlassian products (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence).

Working knowledge in Java, C/C++, and Matlab.

Familiarity with VMWare virtualization tools.

Familiarity with GitLab.

Experience with databases such as SQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

Experience with open‑source technologies and cloud services.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and will be required to obtain and maintain at least a SECRET clearance. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants with an active security clearance will be given preference. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.

Compensation The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $76,700.00 – $129,500.00.
