Job Title: People and Operations Manager Location: San Francisco Years of Experience: 3-5 Job Description: Handel Architects is an internationally recognized architecture and interior design firm dedicated to design excellence, with offices in San Francisco, New York City, Boston, and Hong Kong. Our San Francisco office focuses on innovative mixed-use and multi-family residential projects that enhance the urban fabric and support sustainable living. Our San Francisco studio is seeking a People and Operations Manager to help support firm leadership with daily operations, strategic initiatives, and to promote a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment throughout the employee life cycle. This role will be based in San Francisco, supporting local office needs while also assisting the Director of People and Culture and contributing to firmwide initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic group of architects and designers to shape a vibrant and engaging office culture. In this role, you'll have the flexibility and creative freedom to bring ideas to life—whether it’s organizing events, fostering connection, or finding new ways to keep morale high and creativity flowing. You'll be part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and fun, with plenty of support to turn great ideas into action. Our San Francisco office operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office work Monday–Thursday, and remote-optional work on Fridays. How You’ll Contribute: Manage the
full employee lifecycle , including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and offboarding. Maintain and update
employee records and office policies , procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance and alignment with best practices. Serve as the
first point of contact
for general employee questions and concerns. Coordinate with firm-wide resources
including our Finance team, IT team, firm partners and principals, and leaders of various office committees. Support with
benefits administration ,
payroll ,
visa processes , and employee
leaves of absence . Facilitate
performance review processes
and engagement with
professional development
resources (e.g., mentorship program and other technical and soft skills training opportunities). Lead the planning and execution of regular and seasonal
office events, initiatives, and social activities
that enhance engagement and connection within the studio. Maintain physical operations
for a healthy, high-functioning office space, including managing vendor relationships and contracts. What You Bring: A
bachelor's degree
and
3-5 years of experience
in administrative work with people and operations responsibilities. Strong communication skills —verbal, written, and interpersonal—along with excellent organizational and administrative abilities. A
proactive and adaptable mindset , with the ability to learn quickly and navigate changing priorities. Collaborative and inclusive leadership style. A
keen eye for detail
and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and good judgment. A
positive attitude
and willingness to contribute at all levels. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office ; experience with HR software like
Deltek Talent
is a plus. A passion for
fostering company culture
through programs, events, and employee engagement initiatives. Previous experience in an
architecture or design firm
is a plus, but not required. Familiarity with
recruitment and visa processes
is a bonus. Compensation and Benefits: Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000 Health Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life)
