The Medical Director supports the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Clinical Officer in overseeing medical operations, focusing on 24/7 programs, crisis stabilization, residential recovery, and integrated care initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Provide medical leadership for the center’s prescribing staff, including Psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Nurses.
Supervise associate medical directors, nurse managers, and assigned clinical directors to ensure quality and coordination across programs.
Lead clinical evaluations and consultations for admissions, including infectious disease screening and medical appropriateness assessments.
Co‑lead the Critical Incident Review Committee and Clinical Reviews to maintain high‑quality medical and clinical services.
Review and approve referrals for Emergency Commitments, Involuntary Commitments, and Short‑Term Certifications with court‑ordered medications.
Support implementation of evidence‑based practices such as Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT), trauma‑informed care, Zero‑Suicide initiatives, and harm‑reduction strategies.
Ensure regulatory compliance with Behavioral Health Administration rules, Colorado Department of Human Services licensing, and internal policies, including staff training in CPR, First Aid, and Qualified Medication Administration Personnel.
Collaborate with HR and program directors on hiring, auditing, and documentation workflows.
Lead efforts to update medical and nursing documentation, policies, and naming conventions to match agency‑wide requirements.
Co‑lead development of workflows that improve access to medical services and streamline admissions.
Partner with community stakeholders to address barriers to care and enhance referral pathways.
Contribute to Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) analyzing census, revenue, and staffing metrics for performance improvement.
Ensure integration of medical workflows into systems such as Avatar and key performance indicator dashboards.
Ensure all medical staff are properly trained in the use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and adhere to documentation requirements.
Serve as a liaison between medical services and the Senior Leadership Team, participating in strategic planning and regulatory communications.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
MD or DO degree (or international equivalent) required.
Current medical license and relevant clinical experience required; applicants without a license will not be considered.
Unrestricted Colorado medical license and DEA certificate required.
Prior background as a Psychiatrist or Physician with clinical leadership experience required.
Completion of an ACGME‑accredited residency training program in Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or similar.
Preferred: ACGME‑accredited residency in General Psychiatry and/or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
ABPN Board certification desirable but not required.
A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the above domains.
Expertise in crisis services and medical regulatory compliance; substance use and addiction recovery experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to lead cross‑functional teams.
Knowledge of community mental health systems of care and healthcare transformation across primary and specialty care.
Proficiency in emergency medicine, inpatient medicine, psychopharmacology, and evidence‑based neuropsychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
Experience leading multidisciplinary mental health teams and providing integrated interventions.
Experience in administration, clinical supervision, and systems management.
Salary Range Salary Range: $300,000 to $338,400* (based on 1.0 FTE).
