Salary range: $82,000.00 – $140,000.00. Additional compensation and benefits details are available upon application.
Role Description The Regulatory Relations and Public Policy Group ("RRPP") manages supervisory engagements and advises on government and regulatory strategy. The Regulatory Officer, Associate works with the RRPP to implement SMBC’s regulatory engagement framework and strategy for supervisory and prudential regulators.
Responsibilities
Participate in all phases of the regulatory examination lifecycle, including responding to entry letters, preparing responses, documentation, presentations, and coordinating key meetings.
Perform due diligence reviews to ensure documentation quality before submission.
Notify senior management and relevant personnel of upcoming examinations; advise on scope, focus, and expectations.
Coordinate routine continuous monitoring meetings with regulators and employees, document content and to senior management.
Track status of regulatory inquiries, exams, reviews, and findings; circulate information in periodic status reports.
Maintain regulatory communications, transmittal letters, management responses, and remediation actions.
Escalate potential issues observed during or outside exams and reviews for proper resolution.
Work closely with all Regulatory Relations team members; assist with other functions as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
College degree or equivalent required; graduate, law, or business degree recommended.
At least 3 years of financial services experience at a regulator, bank, or law firm.
Strong project management skills supporting examinations and regulatory projects.
General understanding of financial markets and regulatory requirements.
Attention to detail and ability to complete work accurately and timely against strict deadlines.
Proficient in organizing and tracking progress on multiple tasks with strong follow–through and time management.
Ability to work independently under moderate supervision.
Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Work Arrangement SMBC operates a hybrid workforce model allowing employees to work from home and from an SMBC office. Employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office location. Hybrid work may not be permitted for certain roles.
