Fred Smith Company is currently searching for a Shop Foreman. The Shop Foreman will report to the Shop Superintendent. We are a self-perform heavy civil contractor working in North Carolina. Pay will be commensurate with experience; all employees are eligible after 90 days for benefits such as health, dental and vision insurance and paid time off.

Duties performed will include (but are not limited to) the following:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and effective coordination of ALL repairs and maintenance of fleet assets while insuring the most rapid possible return to service.

Coordinate and assist with scheduling the work of service department personnel to achieve the optimum use of materials, labor and equipment.

Work with the Shop Superintendent to improve preventative maintenance program for all equipment and fleet vehicles while also monitoring and managing maintenance costs.

Forecast all anticipated major repairs, manage inspections and ensure that dealer obligations are fulfilled within warranty period.

Work with the Shop Superintendent to direct assigned subcontractors in their activities to perform all maintenance, repair and other miscellaneous shop activities.

Keep current on all technical improvements and concepts in equipment and maintenance.

Conduct a continuous evaluation of equipment performance, material and parts yields, plans and schedules, job assignments and promotions, on the job training, job safety and quality control.

Assist and direct shop personnel in the following areas:

Using equipment in a safe and proper manner

Improving job performance

Controlling cost and increasing productivity

Improving communication

Selecting, training and developing personnel

Basic Requirements:

Minimum 5 years hands on mechanic experience

Minimum 2 years supervisory experience

Thorough knowledge of DOT rules and regulations

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong financial management skills to include forecasting, cost management and purchasing management

Intermediate level computer skills to include familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products.
