General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store as well as the general operations and supervision of the store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. You will open and close the store, supervise associates, maintain a friendly environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, maintain a clean work area, and execute company operational processes as required.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Understand that safety is the highest priority and practice safe behaviors in everything you do.

Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to store leadership.

Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device daily checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.

Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.

Ensure customer safety, including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.

Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates using company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand at all times.

Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code. Ensure all associates adhere to the dress code.

Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per company best practice.

Receive merchandise truck when needed and process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.

Process all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (signs, supplies, special deliveries, etc.).

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.

Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor when processed.

Ensure any back‑stock is secured and processed per company policy.

Manage merchandising of department, including back stock.

Reduce loss due to damage.

Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.

Manage floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.

Handle re‑wraps as needed.

Loss Prevention

Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and be responsible for store loss prevention, including maintaining a large customer service presence on the sales floor, engaging with customers and associates, and heightened loss prevention awareness.

Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers, safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.

Maintain the Public View Monitor system properly.

Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.

Execute all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Execute company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches. Ensure associates are executing to company standards at the front end.

Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.

Control retail associates’ break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensure all equipment is working properly.

Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end area.

Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.

Teach all associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.

Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Maintain and clean the fitting rooms.

Audit and account for all fitting room garment tags per company policy.

Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day. All merchandise returned to the sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nabbed, and security‑tagged as needed.

Administrative Duties Assigned by Store Manager

Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted per company policy.

Control and manage front‑end operations when needed, adhering to policies and procedures for refunds, associate purchase approvals, securing tills, cash in safe, register paid outs/ins, void approvals, register media, and break schedules.

Handle payroll administration, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Qualifications and Required Skills

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.

Ability to spend up to 100 % of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.

Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.

Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lb.

Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Associates who work stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lb.

Supervisory Responsibilities Retail associates.

Stockroom leads (where applicable).
