Boston Medical Center (BMC) . Reporting to the Director of Revenue Cycle Billing Operations & Cash Posting, the manager supervises and coordinates all facets of Professional billing within the organization. Acts as the primary liaison between designated departments, the Professional Billing Office, third‑party vendors, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve the revenue cycle and resolve issues. Responsible for building collaborative relationships, managing projects, and driving performance. Requires professional revenue cycle expertise and strong communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

Represent the Professional Billing Office as a subject matter expert for revenue cycle items related to the designated department(s).

Serve as a liaison to department and practice contacts to ensure the Professional Billing Office meets service levels and addresses issues impacting service levels and KPIs.

Collaborate with departments, practices, and third‑party billing vendors to drive efficiencies, standardize processes and systems, and optimize patient account flow.

Identify opportunities for process changes or technology implementation to improve PBO performance.

Implement standards and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and timeliness; design, develop, and monitor performance‑improvement processes; manage productivity metrics and continuous improvement opportunities.

Monitor, report, and communicate department‑specific trends and overall revenue cycle performance.

Maintain a close working relationship with assigned departments and other stakeholders.

Collaborate with teams to prepare standard revenue cycle reports, review data, and identify trends and issues.

Facilitate regular meetings with assigned department administrative directors and physician leaders to discuss metrics and improvement opportunities.

Compile and distribute meeting minutes and action items; follow up until resolution.

Oversee third‑party billing vendors; build relationships with vendor client managers.

Suggest revenue‑cycle improvements and work to implement them promptly.

Monitor work‑queue performance across all parties.

Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of professional revenue cycle operations to achieve increased collections, optimal billing goals, and adherence to compliance rules and regulations.

Participate in multiple projects simultaneously while aligning priorities with departmental and organizational goals.

Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including patient rights, to deliver excellent customer service and patient care.

Education Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Healthcare related field (or equivalent work experience).

Experience Minimum of 5‑7 years related experience, specifically managing professional billing functions in an academic medical center; 3‑5 years Epic system experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Advanced knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle functions, coding and billing guidelines, and government payer regulations; CPT coding knowledge required.

Working knowledge of payer reimbursement rules.

Experience auditing, training, and communicating revenue‑cycle regulations and concepts.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with hospital personnel in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong analytical skills.

Highly skilled in Windows‑based software, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Access.

Proficient in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; producing actionable reports and recommending improvements.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to interpret and implement regulatory standards.

Knowledge of multiple healthcare applications, including Epic.

Effective time‑management skills for handling large workloads.

Compensation Base salary range: $72,500.00 – $105,000.00. Total compensation includes benefits (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy), discretionary bonuses, merit increases, 403(b) savings match, paid time off, and other resources supporting employee and family well‑being. Compensation may vary based on geographic location.
