VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across New England, and we’re looking for a senior‑level Water Resources Engineer with strong hydraulics and hydrology technical expertise to lead a dynamic team. This position can be based in any New England office but will focus on assisting clients with developing strategic, cost‑effective, and forward‑thinking solutions to riverine and coastal flooding, ecological restoration, and water‑resources challenges. You will work on projects from site to watershed scale for a variety of private and public‑sector clients, including analysis and engineering solutions for riverine and coastal resiliency, bridge hydraulics, stream restorations, culvert design, dam removals, flood mitigation, and management. Responsibilities

Lead multi‑disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, and resiliency focus, interacting with staff and clients Conduct hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour studies for riverine and coastal environments using HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, HydroCAD, HY‑8, EPA SWMM, SRH‑2D/SMS, CHAMP, and others Use analysis to design flood, scour, and resiliency improvements, including hardened features and nature‑based solutions such as living shorelines Perform FEMA “no‑rise” analyses and assist clients with FEMA map revisions Develop technical reports, design plans, construction documents, and specifications for water‑resources projects Lead construction administration for water‑resource projects Evaluate permit requirements and support development of permit applications with VHB’s integrated team Attend and present at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders Lead development of project proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates Mentor and expand the technical resources of staff Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Team‑oriented with strong motivation for others Demonstrated collaborative problem‑solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates Advanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs, able to select and apply appropriate approaches to solve client problems Experience and interest in staff development Understanding of local, state, and federal permitting Qualifications

Minimum 8‑11 years of experience in related water‑resource engineering and analysis BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering (a master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience) PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months is preferred Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown,\,MA is $120,000–$160,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience. Benefits
