Job Description We are seeking a

Data Scientist - Object Based Intelligence (OBI) Analytic Efficiency

to discover and analyze complex data sets and data sources to derive actionable insights using statistical methods, machine learning, and data visualization tools. This position will support multiple DIA initiatives, including the Machine‑Assisted Rapid‑Repository System (MARS), Object Management Services (OMS), and Object‑Based Intelligence (OBI).

Work locations vary throughout the National Capital Region (NCR), with Reston, VA and Washington, DC being primary locations.

Responsibilities

Conduct data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis.

Utilize scientific techniques to correlate data into graphical, written, visual and verbal narrative products to inform high quality analytic decisions.

Proactively retrieve data from various sources and analyze data for better understanding.

Build and utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) tools to automate processes for efficiencies.

Build high quality prediction systems.

Utilize data visualization and graphical applications, to include Microsoft Office (Power BI) and Tableau.

Utilize major data science languages, such as R and Python.

Perform management and merging of disparate data sources, preferably through R, Python, or SQL.

Perform statistical analysis, and data mining algorithms.

OBI specifically

Designs, develops, and evaluates leading‑edge algorithmic intelligence concepts, practices, and technologies for implementation into OBI.

Recommends advanced statistical or mathematical techniques and methodology that may permit identification and evaluation of alternatives.

Assists in model formulation or experimental test design.

Shares joint in team responsibility for development of advanced analytic techniques and assessments.

Collaborates with team members to develop and refine exploratory efforts leveraging novel technologies.

Automates ontologies and associated components to ensure semantic accuracy, relevance, and interoperability.

Evaluates data science, AI/ML, and other advanced analytic methods for risks, biases, and limitations.

Collaborates with team members to develop and refine semantic data retrieval and reasoning across knowledge graphs through development and optimization of data queries via multiple protocols (e.g. GraphQL, SPARQL, SHACL, SQL).

Maintains currency with independent research on methods of analysis in government, industry, and academia to keep abreast of the state of the art and keeps senior leadership informed.

Provides incremental enhancements to tools, capabilities, processes, and methods.

Advises on emerging data science methods, tools, algorithms, training, or requirements.

Serves as the primary POC for data science expertise, ensuring tradecraft compliance and analytic standards as it relates to data science techniques on the contract.

Ensures compliance with tradecraft standards and adherence to best practices in AI system development and deployment.

Assesses OBI documentation for completeness, accuracy, and thoroughness, and provides detailed feedback to owners and developers.

Provides consultation and guidance to owners, developers, and stakeholders on OBI governance and knowledge modeling, including best practices for AI system development, testing, and deployment.

Collaborates with team members to identify and implement practices for responsible AI development, to include bias detection, hallucination recognition, prompt fairness testing, adherence to analytic tradecraft standards and security policies.

Supports stakeholders in translating technical documentation into analytic tradecraft compliant language.

Supports and automates entity recognition and extraction summarization, in accordance with analytic tradecraft standards.

Conduct audits to ensure compliant use of systems for approved use‑cases in all source analysis.

Develops and maintains a repository of audit findings and recommendations to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices.

Provides technical input into and participates in the development of software and computer graphics systems.

Writes scripts to drive data science workflows.

Works with ambiguous information, deconstruct key questions, leverages spatial data, exploit application programming interfaces, suggest methodologies, and develop data schemas to structure observations.

Works with vendors and software development to implement distributed algorithms.

Requirements

Minimum 8 years of related experience with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.

Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university.

Demonstrated comprehensive mission knowledge and skills that affirm completion of all developmental training and related experiences.

Demonstrated ability to communicate understanding from information that may be incomplete, indirect, highly complex, seemingly unrelated, and/or technically advanced. Ability to structure analytic questions based on trends in reporting and a range of analytic perspectives from other analysts, organizations, and intelligence disciplines.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight and direction.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work with other IC members on information sharing, driving collection, and addressing analytic disputes and conflict resolution.

Demonstrated ability to develop concise, insightful, and comprehensive products for defense intelligence.

Demonstrated ability to guide teams in researching multifaceted or critical problems.

Bonus

Master's degree in a related area and at least 12 years of related experience (with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years), or a Bachelor's degree in a related area and at least 17 years of related experience.
