Component Engineer - Navy Submarine Shipbuilding Program Support

Synchron has an exciting opportunity for a Component Engineer to provide engineering management and acquisition program support to the U.S. Navy Team Submarine organization at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. You will be directly supporting the U.S. Navy's PMS 397 Program Office. PMS 397 oversees the design, construction, and delivery of the COLUMBIA Class Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN). You will support the Navy's future undersea warfare programs and systems.
Responsibilities
Develop, review, and evaluate Component Development plans (including programming, planning, budgeting, and execution) for the Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) System, Common Missile Compartment (CMC), and Strategic Weapons Support System (SWSS).
Evaluate the systems engineering process while simultaneously being a part of the design and acquisition process, maintaining focus on affordability, performance, and maintainability.
Review design deliverables and provide experienced insight to component specifications, ship arrangements and maintenance considerations; including reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) evaluations for component and system design.
Lead two integrated teams for the component and system development of the Advance Carbon Dioxide Removal Unit (ACRU) for the COLUMBIA Class SSBN.
Consolidate all status of component development efforts into regular reports for report to the Technical Director, Program Manager and Program Executive Officer for the COLUMBIA Class Program Office.
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
Seven years of related experience in Systems engineering and/or Project Management
Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communications skills
Ability to handle multiple component projects at the same time
Strong relationship-building skills
Navy systems design, build, test or integration background preferred
Self-motivated and proactive problem solver
Active Duty Navy submarine or ship experience is a major plus
Active DoD Secret clearance
Work Location Washington Navy Yard. Telework option for 1 day per week after all initial onboarding and team integration is completed (estimated 2-4 months).
Travel Potential for travel (less than 10%).
