R136979**About the Opportunity**Under the general supervision of the Plumbing Supervisor, perform a variety of duties in the maintenance operation of the Plumbing, Life Safety Departments. Position will be expected to perform duties as required, in all Plumbing maintenance areas.**Job Summary:**Plumbing: Maintenance, installation and upkeep of pumps, fixtures, connections, expansion joints, hot water heaters, radiators. Assembly, layout, installation, repair and maintenance of non-potable water, and other plumbing related systems, including drainage systems. Install Fire suppression system piping & components for main campus and satellite locations according to specifications and plumbing / NFPA codes. Tasks will include a variety of piping and related accessories, such as fittings, valves, fixtures, flushometers, and other components involved in the distribution and use of water, air, gas, fire protection and waste systems. Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, back flow preventers, sewer ejectors and sump pumps. Maintain plumbing by repair or replacement of leaky faucets; service and correct ruptured lines and open clogged drains using various size machines. Position will require the ability to work in confined spaces such as manholes & ejector pits. Sprinkler piping: Make repairs to sprinkler piping systems as required, replace / relocate sprinkler heads.**Qualifications:**Must have a minimum of a State of Massachusetts Journeyman Plumber’s license. A Masters Plumbing License, sprinkler fitters and pipefitter’s license is desired, but not mandatory. Must be skilled in the use of tools and equipment of the steam fitting and plumbing trade.

Ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, sketches and specifications as required. Must have experience in new construction, remodeling, repairs and maintenance of institutional, commercial and residential buildings. Oil burner servicing experience helpful. Must have or obtain Class I Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator’s License within one (1) year of employment.

Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate installation and repair of pipe and pipe fittings using hand tools and power tools. Cut and thread pipe, using pipe cutters. Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, mechanical fittings, solder, and plastic solvent and caulk joints.

Must have a working knowledge of sprinkler and fire protection systems, pumps and sewer ejectors. Must be familiar with OSHA safety regulations. Position will require working in a non- plumbing / mechanical capacity when necessary, as well as, but not limited to responding to overtime and emergency call-ins as required or directed to ensure proper plant operations.

Must be able to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs. and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others. May use chain falls and come-alongs for heavier lifting. Must be able to push and pull heavy loads as required. Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time; work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods; routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment and other essentials to the job site. Must be able to work alone and climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts, etc.**Requirements:**

Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required. A Journeyman plumber license required. Sprinkler fitter and Master Plumber license is desired.

• This position is 40 hours a week and some mandatory overtime.

• Must be able to work on various shifts and assume duties on a call-in list.

• This position requires a criminal background check.

• All University staff members must successfully complete a 90 day probationary period.The Plumber/Maintenance Mechanic is considered Essential Personnel. This is a condition of employment.
