The University of North Dakota is seeking a candidate for the position of Dean of the School of Law. Located on an active 516‑acre campus in Grand Forks, ND, a vibrant college town of 60,000 residents, UND has a student enrollment of over 15,000 and offers more than 225 fields of study across nine colleges. UND is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and has achieved the Carnegie classification of Very High Research Activity (R1) with over $192 million in research expenditures.
Overview Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief executive officer of the School of Law and is responsible for its effective administration. The Dean will provide leadership to accomplish strategic goals, aligning the functioning of the School of Law with UND’s broader academic identity and strategic planning.
Responsibilities
Academic and administrative planning; budgeting; administration and implementation of department, school, and university policies; and fund‑raising and external relations.
Academic program development and review, faculty recruitment, development and evaluation of faculty, and student relations.
Secure and develop relationships with key stakeholders of the School of Law, including alumni, supporters, and members of North Dakota’s legal community.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators as a consultative decision‑maker and team player.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or other terminal degree in law.
At least six years of accomplishments in progressive and increasingly complex leadership roles in higher education, the practice of law, or a related field.
At least ten years of teaching or professional experience in law.
Licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction in the United States.
