Professional Supervisor Position: Professional Supervisor – SMETS & METER Substation & Meter

Location: [[postingCity]] – Oahu

Job Function Supervises and directs activities related to the company’s revenue meters, providing expertise, training, and guidance to maintain electric meter operations.

Essential Functions

Supervise, direct, and monitor workforce activities for testing, installing, and removing all meters on the company’s system; perform administrative functions such as preparing performance appraisals, conducting interviews, disciplinary action, and reviewing timecards.

Be available for emergencies after normal working hours.

Ensure safety and training of all subordinates, providing refresher training on a scheduled or as‑needed basis.

Act as contact person for field matters and quality assurance related to electric metering; assist contractors and electricians in compliance with metering requirements and assist commercial and residential customers with related issues.

Perform on‑site field work.

Detect and deter meter diversion and provide evidence for reimbursement from customers.

Maintain the meter record system.

Develop and manage the O&M budget forecast for the section.

Ensure inventory of meters and metering equipment is purchased and managed efficiently.

Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications Knowledge Requirements

Thorough knowledge of electrical engineering principles and theories, normally acquired through a BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related work experience.

Thorough knowledge of electric metering operations and meter work.

Knowledge of metering standards and national electrical code.

Apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.

Successful completion of a supervisory training course or equivalent.

Knowledge of company policies and procedures such as the Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, etc.

Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing).

Skills Requirements

Ability to handle difficult and sensitive issues with tact, courtesy, and discretion.

Supervisory and leadership skills and ability to work with a variety of individuals, including sensitive or confrontational situations.

Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals.

Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license meeting the standards for driving positions.

Experience Requirements

Several years (5 or more) of experience in electrical engineering or extensive (10 or more years) related field work experience.
